Spousal Registered Retirement Income Fund

Retirement & Pensions

A RRIF is a type of retirement account that allows individuals to convert their Registered Retirement Savings Plan (RRSP) or other eligible retirement savings into a source of income during retirement. If you own RRSPs, you must convert your RRSPs to a RRIF or RRIFS before the end of the year you turn 71. When you do this, you are directly transferring funds from your registered accounts to a RRIS. Your investments will not be taxed while they are in a RRIF. However, you must pay tax on your withdrawals.

Spousal RRIFs

A spousal RRIF allows individuals to allocate a portion of their RRIF income to their spouse or common-law partner, potentially resulting in income splitting and reduced taxes.
